05 JULY 2010, BY SEPANG INTERNATIONAL CIRCUITS
SEPANG, June 4, 2010 : Malaysian 125cc MotoGP rider Zulfahmi Khairuddin finally landed the elusive point in the world championship today as he finished at the 15th spot today at Spain’s Catalunya Circuit.

The 18 year-old rider finished the race one minute and 16 seconds behind the leader, Marc Marquez, an exhilarating leap in his performance since his first outing in MotoGP championship.

With thousands of Malaysian MotoGP fans rooting for him, the AirAsia-Sepang International Circuit Team rider’s massive improvement in his performance at the Catalunya circuit was definitely an eye-opener for those who have been following his journey in the MotoGP, and Sepang International Circuit chief executive officer Razlan Razali was certainly very proud.

“I am very, very proud of his achievement today, it was beyond our expectations. We never expected it and I’m sure Zulfahmi did not too. All Malaysians should be proud of him. It really shows that the Malaysian Wildcard programme works.

I would like to congratulate Zulfahmi for his performance. It’s a pity about Zulfhami’s teammate, Sturla (Fagerhaug) but that is how racing is,” said Razlan.

Zulfahmi’s performance also caught the eye of ESPN commentators.
“He is a nice kid, and performing rather well for someone who does not have a lot of experience on the European circuit,” said the commentator as they watched his performance in the race.

AirAsia Group CEO Dato’ Sri Dr. Tony Fernandes said AirAsia Group CEO Datuk Sri Dr. Tony Fernandes said “ This is a very momentuous occasion for the team. Zulfahmi proved that he has what it takes at the pinnacle of two wheel racing by scoring his first point of the season. We are all very proud of him.

“Although he faced numerous mechanical glitches to his machine in previous races, he persevered and continued to perform at his best. Hats off to Zulfahmi for his fine display and kudos to the team for a job well done.”
